Goldfields Jet is based at Goldfields Mining Centre on State Highway 6 in the Kawarau Gorge. (The main Queenstown- Cromwell highway). The trip heads south down the river into the shallow braded waters of the Bannockburn Arm. This section has only been accessible by Jet boat since the construction of the Clyde dam and the subsequent creation of the Lake Dunstan in 1989.

The trip then heads up the river and into the spectacular Kawarau Gorge. As the river narrows the rapids begin to form, stopping at the foot of the mighty Staircase rapid before returning down river to Goldfields Jet Base finishing with our unique 360-degree spin.

The duration of the trip is 40 minutes and includes an extensive commentary on the history of the area and other points of interest.

Wanaka is a lovely holiday resort town nestled amongst breath- taking scenery on the southern shores of Lake Wanaka. In the heart of the Southern Lakes District, in Central Otago. The gateway to Mt Aspiring National Park and skiing Treble Cone Ski Field and Cadrona Alpine resort. Wanaka is a 30-minute drive north up Lake Dunstan

This historic town is located at the foot of a river gorge and is surrounded by rounded hills of schist punctuated with large craggy standing rocks. Schist is gold bearing rock and substantial strikes in the rivers near Clyde sparked a gold rush in the late 1800s.

It’s easy to see why some of the first Europeans to enter the region chose this site as a place to settle. The micro-climate offers hot, dry summers, with mild springs and autumns that are full of nature’s colours. Today, Clyde is a great place to enjoy the cafe lifestyle in a scenic setting that’s rich in history.

Mt. Michael Lodge provides unique views of the local landforms, with superb views of the Pisa, Dunstan and Carrick ranges, that are perfectly separated by the blue waters of Lake Dunstan
